Under Georgia law, you have specific rights as a crime victim.

 

Article I, Section I of the Georgia Constitution gives crime victims in Georgia the right to the utmost dignity and respect and to be treated fairly by the criminal justice system. Crime victims can request the right to:

  • reasonable, accurate and timely notice of any scheduled court proceedings involving the alleged act or changes to the scheduling of such proceedings;
  • reasonable, accurate and timely notice of the arrest, release or escape of the accused;
  • be heard at any scheduled court proceedings involving the release, plea, or sentencing of the accused

 

Crime victims also have the right:

  • not to be excluded from any scheduled court proceedings involving the alleged act;
  • to be informed of his or her rights
  • to assert any of these rights
